Credit Card Tips for the College Graduate

CNN Money posted an article giving college graduates "tips" on how to manage their credit cards after graduation. They say the following:
  • Switch from a student credit card to a traditional card
  • Whatever you do don't cancel the card you had in college
  • Pay off your balance every month
Now let me give my advice.... DONT GET A CREDIT CARD!!! If you are a college student out there and have a credit card, cut it up, pay it off and close the account (in that order)! You have no need to make Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Citibank, Capital One, Chase and the others rich!

Federal Fair Debt Collection Act

Many of you may not be aware that there are certain rules that regulate what collectors can and cannot do. The Federal Fair Debt Collection Act was established by the FTC to prevent abuse of the consumers by finance companies. It addresses the following:

  • When a collector can call you
  • What they can tell others about your debt
  • What they can and cannot say
It also discusses what to do if you believe a collector is breaking the law. Use this!

Welcome.

This is intended to be a resource to help you get out of debt. On here I will post articles discussing debt elimination and ways to quickly make money to get out of debt. Feel free to comment and add your own tips.
